Lenders for Community Development

Lenders for Community Development is a Community Development Financial Institution serving Silicon Valley with loans and technical assistance to small businesses, affordable housing developers, and community facilities, and IDAs and financial education for low-income families. Since 1995, LCD has invested more than $67 million in affordable housing developments, community facilities, small businesses, and Individual Development Accounts for the underserved communities of the region, helping over 5,000 households build assets and improve their lives.

In 2005, LCD launched its Building Blocks childcare loan program, working in conjunction with the eBay Foundation and local referral agencies. The Building Blocks program offers loans, grants, and technical assistance to childcare centers and home providers to finance licensing costs, purchase furniture, toys and equipment, perform renovation and repairs, and make upgrades to meet health and safety requirements. The goal of the program is to increase the quantity and quality of childcare spaces in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
